We are currently looking for a Head Horticulturist, who has a passion for design and fine gardening.  This is a full-time salaried position with generous paid time off, health benefits and continuing education opportunities. 

Overview of Responsibilities include:

• Oversee a crew of up to 6 which includes crew leaders

• General gardening and maintenance – you will be the plant expert on a crew performing regular maintenance visits, as well as more complex install/design jobs.

• Develop and maintain client relationships through face to face meetings with each customer contact at every visit.

• Source and purchase plant material at correct times of the season in accordance with projects/plant installation

• Adhere to all OSHA & CDC COVID guidelines , ensuring safe working environments for entire field staff

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Horticulture or in a related field a must

• 3 years+ experience in professional gardening

• Previous management experience – guiding training and evaluating staff

• Masterful knowledge of NYC plant material, gardening and plant care

• Valid NYS Driver’s License in good standing and ability to drive a box truck/ van in Manhattan, including knowledge of NYC streets.

• Ability to read site plans

• Design seasonal planting layouts for maintenance clients – knowledgeable planting substitutions in accordance to preferences.

• Detail oriented.

• Excellent communication skills – written and verbal.

• Excellent leadership skills

• Excellent client service skills

• Ability to work independently, as well as, part of a team, personable & well-humored.

• Experience purchasing plant material from nurseries

• Physically fit, must be able to lift at least 50lbs on regular basis

• Carpentry knowledge a plus
